Department of Sociology

About Department

The Department of Sociology was established in 1973. The subject was taught as major paper namely Principles of Sociology, Indian Society, Indian Social Thought and, Western Social Thought. It is one of the Pioneering Social Science Department in the College that has provided an applied edge to the courses being offered. The Department has central library facility and well-equipped modern infrastructure for teaching and research activities. The faculty of the Department has been actively associated with student development activities in various capacities.


Vision
The Department of Sociology aims to create an active and robust engagement with social issues within local region. Departmental faculties are in regular interface with Health and Illness, Culture and Gender Development of local communities. The faculty members regularly contribute academic knowledge and its application through interventions with Social organizations. The department has self-bench mark of academic excellence, disseminating and advancing inter-disciplinary studies and research to serve for the well-being of all the sections of the society.

The Department provides informal career guidance and placement services to the students in industrial Sector and Service Sector. Need based training programmes in Research, NET, UPSC, KPSC Coaching and increase the employability of the Students. Teachers counsel the students who are appearing for competitive examinations.
