Chadchan means like Constantinople, a pivotal place situated on the extreme boundary of Maharashtra state with which it has a very thick relations in respect of education, business, culture and other relations as well. Earlier it was a big village in Indi taluka, but has the credit of starting higher education institutions like degree college even before the Tahasil place Indi. It is known for multifarious dimensions. A spiritual place where Vedant Kesari H.H Mallikarjun Mahaswamiji of Jnanayogashram, Vijayapura used to conduct his discourses on a periodical basis during which process only his manasputra Shri Shri Siddeshwar Swamiji came in contact and was dedicated to public service of preaching philosophy. Chadchan in general and Shri Sangameshwar Shikshan samstha which all people profoundly call as the Gadinaada Vidyakashi boasts of Siddeshwar Swamiji’s highschool studies in this highschool. Being educational hub with three, now four highschools, two junior colleges, one degree college imparting education in Arts, Commerce, BCA, BSW, post graduate M.Com. and MSW.Besides Shri Guru Mallikarjuna college of Education and one ITI as well are fulfilling the aspirations of this area people. Parents all the way from Jath, Mangalaweda and South Solapur taluka of Maharashtra, in Karnataka parents from Indi, Kannur, Agasanal, Halasangi send their sons/ daughters to this place to shape the career of their children. The contribution of great educationalists like M R Jahagirdar, Dr. G B Sajjan, a renowned English teacher as well writer & Principal Mench, Kusur, Cholakhe, Jangamashetti and Mudnur was worth noting. So also the contribution of great literary figure Dr. Simpi Linganna is great as far as the field of literature is concerned, who in association with his friends circle which include Madhura Channa, P Dhoola, and Kapase Revappa made a revolution in the field of Folk Literature (Janapad) and have transformed the society culturally.
Ever since Chadchan is also famous for textile business. Being a big village for around 80 surrounding villages provides for their daily needs. Since last 30 years Bahubali Textile Shop is famous for its cheap and best quality sarees and other readymade wears. Customers even from places like Mumbai, Nagpur and Lokapur like places do visit for their shopping. This has given support to other businesses like hotel, street vendors, footwears and so on.
Indian sugar manufacturing co. Ltd which has started crushing sugarcane since 2001 is another feather to the crown of Chadchan. It has met the majority problem of sugarcane growers in this Bheema river belt and surrounding villages that cultivate sugarcane. It has created employment opportunities for several people and led to the upcoming of people economically. Many supporting service industries have also come up and doing the needful.
State Bank of India, Canara, Karnataka Vikas Grameen and Karnataka Bank are the bankers playing pivotal role in providing financial help to both small and big venturers. Besides as many as 40 finance corporation/ souhardas are doing their job to the best of their ability. Again, it is the main center for health service also. A Govt community Hospital and several private hospitals cater to the needs of people.
Chadchan village is place of pride as far as freedom struggle of our nation is concerned. As many as 45 active freedom fighters were there. Being staunch followers of Mahatma Gandhi, contributed their might in freeing our motherland.
Wednesday bazar including the cattle bazar and the annual cattle fare is famous. It will be a great occasion to all including farmers to sell their cattle wealth and buy the agri equipments if any they needed. All types of cattle varieties are being bought and sold over the jatra period. The village panchayat and APM arrange for giving prizes for meritorious cows, bulls and so on. Drama theatre, entertaining plays and games and exhibitions also are exhibited for amusing the children of farmers. People across the country from Amaravati of Maharashtra to Karimnagar of Andhra Pradesh do visit to buy khillari type of stud bulls.
Since Chadchan has been announced as new Tahashil place accommodating almost all the facilities that a taluka head quarter requires to provide necessary services to common people.
Thus, geographically located in a sensitive place requires to be provided with quality education that caters the needs of all types of people. The degree college was previously affiliated to the good old Karnatak University, Dharwad and now allocated to new but biggest university Rani Channamma University, Belagavi, is striving hard to provide the best possible high quality education in all the streams at a comparatively low cost to the economically challenged and backward category people of the region.
